Lowbrow Art & Pop Surrealism

Black window - Natalie Shau

When I saw for the first time works belonging to the Lowbrow  Art or Pop Surrealism movement, the first impression was that the vampire fashion was been summed to the “Hello Kitty” fan club!
In this artistic movement, born in L.A. at the end of the 1970s, there is something very childish mixed together with a macabre and dark style. The result is something very disturbing, almost agonizing, but magnetic and fascinating.
The movement has its origins in the underground comix world, in the punk music and other subcultures.

Vorrei presentarvi due artiste che hanno catturato la mia attenzione, appartenenti a questo movimento e rappresentate alla Dorothy Circus Gallery.

Nouar is a young Iranian artist, graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 2004. Her art is deeply affected by American mid-nineteenth century illustration and advertisement art: protean colors, humor and bodies so suitable that you’d like to eat them. Now she is presenting her works in the exhibit “What a wonder food world” to the Dorothy Circus Gallery until april the 2nd  .
