Kalbi Camdan - Swithcing on the immagination

-Can you tell us something about yourself?

I'm seventeen since 17 february. I love to play piano expecially on the concert or on the stage, I love nights too. I'm interested in music except the photography for 4 years. My connection with photography is different from the music's, I never left my photo machine and I usually speard the photography at my day. I'm the person who can try to do more art stuff in 24 hours in a day.

-When did you discover your passion for art?

When I was in preschool I always paint mermaid and everybody find it strange. But my teacher acclimate it after a while. There was a mermaid painting with my name on the board every week. After all of that I joined the kids teather department. I love the play little org which is given from my big sister. I had short-term guitar lessons and I met Umay Umay. She add the passion word at my art vision. She is the one who directed to me photographies and music.

- How do you create your works?

I take the pictures with no ideas about their last position. I don’t like the thinking while takeing picture. I feel the machine like one part of my body and then I take it in a camposition with my daily or weekly experiences. It happens like that.

-What are your main sources of inspirations?

My pain.

- Ci puoi raccontare qualcosa su di te?

Ho diciassette anni dal 17 febbraio. Amo suonare il piano, specialmente in concerto o sul palco, mi piacciono anche le notti. Sono interessato alla musica e alla fotografia da 4 anni. Sono legato alla fotografia in modo diverso che alla musica, non lascio mai la mia macchina foto. Sono la persona può fare più arte nell’arco delle 24 ore della giornata.

-Quando hai scoperto la tua passione per l’arte?

Quando ero alla scuola materna ho sempre dipinto le sirene e tutti le trovavano strane. Dopo un po’ la mia insegnante si è abituata. C’era una sirena nuova sulla cattedra ogni settimana. Dopo di che sono entrato a far parte di un gruppo di teatro per bambini. Per un po’ ho preso lezioni di chitarra e ho incontrato Umay Umay. Lei ha aggiunto la passione al mio modo di concepire l’arte. Lei è stata quella che mi ha indirizzato verso la fotografia e la musica.

- Come crei i tuoi lavori?

Faccio fotografie senza alcuna idea del risultato finale. Non mi piace pensare mentre scatto. Sento la macchina fotografica come parte del mio corpo e dopo la inserisco in una composizione assieme all’esperienza di un giorno o di una settimana. Più o meno succede così.

- Quali sono le tue principali fonti d’ispirazione?

Le mie sofferenze.

Oleksandr Hnatenko - Surreal moment in photography

Maybe you know him from Deviant Art as “gnato”, but his real name is Oleksandr Hnatenko, that’s why OH! Photography. Oleksandr was born in Zolochiv, Ukraine, in August 27th 1986. Now, he lives and works in Vienna, Austria. 
 Getting his first camera at the age of 8 he tried to take photos at his uncle’s wedding. After taking the pictures he realised that there was no film in the camera. That’s his first approach with photography. 
 After years, He tried taking pictures again. Oleksandr, through his photography is looking for reality, but do this in his own way. Lots of things come across during his search, some are simple, some old, some new, some that are eye-catching, in colour or in monochrome, visible things and some hidden from view, some things with sense and some without.
 Surreal moments are born out of this. They exist in the imagination of Oleksandr Hnatenko and they take form in his photos.

Forse lo conoscete da Deviant Art come “gnato”, ma il suo vero nome è Oleksandr Hnatenko, da qui il nome OH! Photography. Oleksandr nasce a Zolochiv, in Ucraina, il 27 agosto del 1986. Oggi lavora e vive a Vienna. Ebbe la sua prima macchina fotografica all’età di otto anni e cercò di scattare foto al matrimonio dello zio, ma alla fine della cerimonia si accorse di non aver messo il rullino nella macchina fotografica. Oleksandr, attraverso la fotografia, guarda la realtà, ma lo fa a modo suo. Durante la sua ricerca ha incontrato molte cose, alcune semplici, altre vecchie, altre nuove, altre che attirano l’attenzione per I colori, cose visibili e cose nascoste. Da ciò sono nati momenti surreali che esistono prima nell’immaginazione dell’artistta e che prendono forma nelle sue opere.

Stéphane Pellennec - Photography and dream

Hi everyone! Today I have an interview with an other Finish artist! Enjoy it!

- Can you tell us something about yourself? When did you discover your passion for Photography?

I'm a dreamer and as a child I was the kind of guy at school you could call a dreamer, the one in his own world, drawing small signs on paper while the teacher explained important things, dreaming looking at the wind moving the branches behind the classroom window... and this until I got to military service. I met there a photographer who was so passioned, he gave me interest in photography, not only as a viewer but also as the one taking the picture. Before I've had some pocket camera and wasn't satisfied about results and could think about photography as a way to express my mind as drawing was, but this man has shown me that with a manual reflex camera, everything is possible. So I asked for a cheap manual reflex camera in 1996 for Christmas. We weren't yet in the digital age and I've learned a lot, read, tried... and my passion did grow up all the time, and it still grows up, I'm still learning and trying, going from analog to digital, from digital to medium format analog, learning to develop negatives...

- What are your main sources of inspirations?

I feel inspired when I feel good and relax and it happens when it is peaceful around and often in the nature. I love to walk on shores, to observe relations between elements, between humans and elements, nature and elements, human and nature... Water is very important.

- What do you want to transmit to people with your works ?

Most of the time I don't make works to transmit things to people, I make works just as I would draw my mind on a piece of paper, for myself, for trying to put my mind, my dreams, on black on white, to get back to myself and dreamy world.

- What is the work that you are more attached? Why?

Strangely the work I'm the most attached to isn't the most typical from me, but there are so many feelings behind this one, how I felt during the moment I took it and what beginning it meant for me and my love, which make this one to be the one, if I need to choose one:

- Può raccontarci qualcosa sulla sua vita? Quando ha scoperto la sua passione per la fotografia?

Io sono un sognatore e quando ero un bambino a scuola ero quell tipo di ragazzo che si può chiamare sognatore. La persona che si mette a tracciare segni sulla carta mentre l’insgnante spiega cose importanti, quella che sogna guardando il vento muovere i rami dietro la finestra.. e così fino al servizio militare, dove incontrai un fotografo che era così appassionato da trasmettermi il suo interesse nella fotografia, non solo come spettatore, ma come colui che sta dietro all’obiettivo. Prima di allora avevo una macchina fotografica compatta, non ero soddisfatto dei risultati, ma non pensavo alla fotografia come modo per esprimere me stesso. Ma quell’uomo ma ha fatto capire che con una reflex manuale ogni cosa è possibile. Così nel Natale del 1996 chiesi in regalo una reflex manuale da pochi soldi. Non era ancora arrivata l’era digitale. Da allora ho imparato molto, leggendo e provando, e ancora oggi continuo ad imparare e la mia passione aumenta di giorno in giorno. Provo a cambiare da analogico a digitale e viceversa, imparo a sviluppare negativi …

- Quali sono le sue principali fonti d’ispirazione?

Mi sento ispirato quando sto bene e sono rilassato, e questo succede quando attorno a me c’è pace e spesso anche natura e verde. Amo camminare sulla spiaggia, osservare relazioni tra gli elementi, tra esseri umani ed elementi, tra la natura e gli elementi, tra la natura e gli esseri umani.. l’acqua è importante.

- Cosa vuole trasmettere alle persone con I suoi lavori?
Di solito non eseguo I miei lavori per trasmettere qualcosa alle persone. Fotografo allo stesso modo di come disegnerei la mia mente su un pezzo di carta, per me stesso, per cercare di rappresentare la mia mente, I miei sogni in bianco e nero. Per ritorvare me stesso e il mio mondo di sogni.

-Qual’è il lavoro a cui sei più affezionato? Perché?

Stranamente il lavoro a cui sono più affezionato non rappresenta il mio lavoro tipico. Ma racchiude così tante emozioni. Come mi sono sentito in quella circostanza e cosa ha significato quel momento per me.

Hengki Koentjoro - Photography and Indonesian tradition

Puppet Silhouette

1. Q : What are your main influences?

A: My main influence in photography is an Indonesian tradition that I saw for the first time when I was in childhood.

In Indonesia we have a form of theatrical puppet performance called The Wayang Kulit. Basically a maestro called Dalang will perform a story taken from the Hindus Mahabarata episode (ancient book in Sanskrit) and illustrate using the shadow of a puppet. The puppets represents character of good and bad. A lantern is lit behind the Dalang will create a silhouette on the screen in front of him enabling the viewer from the other side of the screen to see the performance.

This silhouette captivated me and I use this method frequently on my photographs, I project an image that looks like a silhouette. A bit dramatic, surrealist and mysterious I should say.

2. Q: What does photography represent to you?

A: Photography is an escape for me. Kind of balancing the stressful of the real world, it keeps your sanity. This is also the medium where I can express my self with freedom. B&W in particular gives me more flexibility for personal interpretation. It is rich in mysteries and evokes stronger emotion.

3. Q: What do you want to transmit?

A: I love nature specially the ocean. I hope with my photographs the viewer will be taken to a journey to the other world by exposing the unseen. I believe a good picture should transmit an emotion and to do that one's work must have "the spirit". I want them not just to look, but see the photograph.

4. Q: What is the work that you are particularly attached?

A: Anything to do with water. Water calms me down, specially the huge Blue ocean. It's a source of sanity as well as inspiration. Living in Indonesia also help, it is the biggest archipelago nation on earth with 17,000 islands to play with. My favorites work almost always comes from the sea, somehow I perform better in that realm.

1. D: Quali sono le tue principali influenze?

A: I miei lavori fotografici si basano, e si può così parlare di influenza, su una tradizione indonesiana a cui ho assistito per la prima volta durante l’infanzia. In Indonesia abbiamo una forma di spettacolo teatrale fatto con i burattini, chiamato The Wayang Kulit. In poche parole un maestro chiamato Dalang racconta una storia presa da un episodio del libro Hindus Mahabarata (libro antico in sanscrito) con l’uso dell’ombra di un burattino. Il burattino rappresenta sia il bene che il male. Una lampada accesa dietro il Dalang crea una silhouette sullo schermo, permettendo a chi è dall’altra parte di vedere la performance di ombre. Quella silhouette mi ha incantato e spesso riutilizzo questo metodo nelle mie fotografie. Progetto un’immagine in modo tale che sembri una silhouette. Un po’ teatrale, surrealista e misteriosa, penso.

2. D: Che cosa rappresenta la fotografia per te?

A: La fotografia per me è un’evasione, un modo per riequilibrare lo stress della vita reale e appagare la mente. È anche il mezzo attraverso il quale posso esprimermi con libertà. Il bianco e nero, in particolare, mi dà una maggiore flessibilità per un’interpretazione personale, perché da un senso di mistero e evoca emozioni forti.

3. D: Cosa vuoi trasmettere con la tua arte?

A: Amo la natura, in particolare l’oceano. Spero che attraverso le mie fotografie, che mostrano dettagli, particolari, scene nuove, lo spettatore intraprenda un viaggio per un’altra parte di mondo non ancora conosciuto. Credo che una bella fotografia possa trasmettere emozione, ma per fare ciò il lavoro deve possedere uno “spirito”. Vorrei che il pubblico non guardasse semplicemente la fotografia, ma la vedesse.

4. D: Qual è un lavoro al quale sei particolarmente affezionato?

A: Qualsiasi che abbia a che fare con l’acqua. L’acqua mi calma, in particolare l’immensità blu dell’oceano. È una fonte di equilibrio e d’ispirazione per me. Vivere in Indonesia è anche un grande aiuto, è l’arcipelago più grande del mondo con 17,000 isole. I miei lavori preferti quasi sempre hanno a che fare con il mare, in qualche modo mi esprimo meglio in quel ambiente.
