What are young photographers up to in the twenty-first century? How do they see the world? How much do they respect, build on, or reject tradition? As the digital revolution continues its relentless advance, demolishing longstanding practices in every domain of our field, curiosity builds as to how the new generation of photographers will operate. The reGeneration project – the broadest and most enterprising survey of its kind – set out in 2005 to discover answers to these intriguing questions, while revealing emerging photography in wide-ranging fashion. Following on from the success of this exhibition shown in ten different cities across North America, Europe and Asia, this second edition turns the spotlight on 80 up-and-coming talents from 30 countries. The Musée de l’Elysée selected the most promising candidates from some 700 entries submitted by 120 of the world’s top photography schools. The curators tried to keep an open mind throughout the selec- tion process, whether the photographers had chosen a documentary or an artistic approach, whether they worked with film or computer, and whether they supported their work with a detailed concept or preferred shooting spontaneously. reGeneration2 showcases the inspiring creativity and ingenuity of photographers at the outset of their careers, as they navigate in the fast-moving currents of the second decade of the 21st century. It shows these young practioners focusing on major themes as diverse as the urban environment, globalization, issues of identity and memory, their use of hybrid techniques allowing them to obscure as never before the distinction between reality and fiction.

Bonni Benrubi Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition, SUMMER PLACE. This exhibition expresses the vitality of the summer season through the work of contemporary photographers who capture the leisure, athleticism, heat and psychology of the season through their images.
Highlights include new work by gallery artist Karine Laval, who transports the viewer to a place of pure sensual, existential experience, as swimmers splash and shimmer among the reflective waters of her exuberant yet nostalgic color pool images.Susannah Ray documents the surfing subculture of Rockaway Beach, NY, which makes up for the lack of allure and lifestyle of West Coast surfing with a surfeit of heart, dedication and soul. The work of photographer Liz Lantz likewise goes against the grain of popular imagination, focusing her camera on the women surfers contributing to the history and evolution of a traditionally male dominated sport. Blair Seagramdeconstructs and reconstructs the surf and its riders in her large format, digitally manipulated panoramic images, while the photography of Caryl Englander captures the specific color and atmosphere of the coast.
Finally, evoking quiet introspection as the summer season turns to autumn, the work ofChristopher Payne documents the decaying remnants of the monumental civic impulse apparent in the nation's abandoned psychiatric hospitals.
In addition to these highlights, SUMMER PLACE will include the work of other emerging artists such as Samuel Powers and Adam Raphael, as well as established photographers such as Pete Turner, Wout Berger and LeRoy Grannis.

He Sen - Exhibition in Milan

Today I want to present a Chinese artist, his name is He Sen, and he was the chosen painter to represent China in the last Venice Biennial. He was born in 1968 in Yunnan Province, China. Studied art first in China, later in Germany and currently teaches at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Photography and Digital Media in Beijing.
Primo Marella Gallery in Milan dedicates an exhibitions with a selection of the artist latest works, from April 8th until May 30th.
He Sen paints distinguish themselves for the peculiar technique used to establish an intimate contact with the spectator.
Part of the exhibition is dedicate to the “Smoking Girls”, the most famous works of the artist. The works were born from a photography shoots of young girls find themselves in daily moments: while smoking, playing or drinking. Subjects created by He Sen are beautiful, but behind that beauty there are fears and void hidden. Fears and void refer to subject, but also to contemporary China, that moving frenetically doesn’t let people to adapt to its continuous change.
