Just come back from Marrakech!!
Appena tornata a casa da Marrakech!
When I arrived in Marrakech I expected to see a beautiful city warm and welcoming! I was curious about its history, uses and costumes that I know being so different from European’s one. This distance has always been a big attraction for me!
I was right, the city is magic for our Eurpean mind, a place to escape, to find values and things that seems lost in our modern countries!
And last, but not least, the souk and markets and shops!! You can find everything you want to fill your apartment!
So, the short holiday was relaxing and very interesting, I enjoyed a wonderful time, in a great city!
But what I always have to keep in mind is that Marrakech is not Europe! I know it sounds obvious, but I think the sense is not always so clear! They have a different culture, so different from ours!
Tourists are well accepted only because they bring money in the city, but this is the only reason, because both the two cultures that face each other along the streets of Marrakech don’t try to find a point of contact. I found they are not interested in it.
Even if Morocco is a very poor country, as it is easy to image, the owner of our Riad, an italo-french man, explains us that Marrakech is a happy island compared to the rest of the country! People from Morocco come here, because tourism brings money. The rest of the country is poorer than here!
So, tourists find themselves walking along the streets of the old centre of Marrakech , Medina, they seems just put there without can’t do anything for what is perceived deeply wrong about the economic and chance differences between Europe and Africa.
These was only few reflections, to travel more aware. And now some turistic information:
Marrakech is a perfect city for having a spring break, and mix tourism, with relax!
Important is not seeing particular museums or monuments, but just walking around from inside Medina, old centre, and outside Medina the new city. Seeing life: admiring the old traditions and as both the Occidental influence and the modernisation that are taking place, change the city. Parks and palaces deserve to be seen, and obviously the souk, old market, and the central square, Jamaa el Fnaa.
Eating in Morocco: cous cous, tajines (meat, usually lamb, with vegetables, cooked in a terra-cotta plate), meant the, and honey dessert.
Riad: Ineslisa (www.ineslisa.com), in the northern part of Medina, very close to the central square of Jamaa el Fnaa. Only 4 rooms, very nice, clean, tidy, comfortable!
Riad are the perfect cheap and chic location for spending nights!
Restaurant: la Tanjia! The atmosphere is great, and the food also! In a perfect Morocco style! A little bit expensive! If you don’t want to spend go in the square Jamaa el Fnaa there are a lot of stand where you can eat!
Appena arrivata a Marrakech, mi aspettavo di trovare una bella città calorosa e accogliente!
Ero curiosa della sua storia, degli usi e dei costumi, che sapevo essere così diversi da quelli europei. Queste diversità sono sempre stato una grande attrazione per me!
Avevo ragione, la città è magica per la nostra mente europea, un posto per scappare, per ritrovare cose e valori ormai persi nei nostri moderni paesi! E per ultimo, anche se non come importanza, il souk, il mercato e I negozi!! In cui è possibile trovare qualsiasi cosa adatta a riempire fino all’orlo i nostri appartamenti!
Così la piccola vacanza è stata rilassante e molto interessante, ho trascorso un tempo piacevole in una bellissima città!
Ma quello che dovevo sempre tenere a mente è che Marrakech non è l’Europa! So, che può sembrare ovvio, ma penso che il concetto non sia sempre così chiaro! Loro hanno una cultura totalmente differente dalla nostra!
I turisti sono ben accettati solo perchè portano denaro, ma questa sembra essere la sola ragione di tolleranza, perchè entrambe le culture che si scontrano lungo le strade della città, non cercano alcun punto di contatto! E nemmeno sembrano interessate a farlo!
Sebbene il Marocco sia una nazione molto povera, come è facile da immaginare, il padrone del nostro Riad, un signore italo-francese, ci ha spiegato che Marrakech rappresenta una sorta di isola felice rispetto al resto della nazione! I marocchini vengono a Marrakech perchè il turismo porta denaro, ma il resto della nazione è ancora più povero che qui!
Così i turisti si trovano a camminare per il vecchio centro della città, la Medina, e sembrano messi lì, così lontani dalla città reale, senza poter far niente per ciò che si percepisce essere così profondamente ingiusto riguardo alla differenza di possibilità economiche e di vita presente tra Europa e Africa.
Queste erano solo alcune riflessioni per viaggiare più consapevoli.E ora qualche informazione turistica:
Marrakech è una città perfetta per una pausa primaverile e mixare turismo e relax!
Non è importante vedere musei o monumenti, ma girare intorno, dentro e fuori la Medina, il centro antico. Osservare la vita: le vecchie tradizioni e come l’influenza occidentale e la modernizzazione hanno cambiato e stanno cambiando la città.
I parchi e i palazzi meritano di essere visti, come il souk, il vecchio mercato e la piazza centrale di Jamaa el Fnaa.
Un po’ di cibo Marocchino: cous cous, tanjia (piatto di carne e verdure cotte in un piatto di terracotta), te alla menta e dolci al miele.
Riad: Ineslisa (www.ineslisa.com), nella parte nord della Medina, vicino alla piazza centrale di Jamaa el Fnaa. Composto da sole 4 stanze, molto carino, pulito, tranquillo, comodo! I Riad sono il posto perfetto, cheap and chic, per trascorrere le notti!
Ristoranti: la Tanjia! L’atmosfera e il cibo sono ottimi! In un perfetto stile Marocchino! Un po’ caro! Se non volete spendere in piazza Jamaa el Fnaa ci sono un sacco di bancarelle che vi preparano da mangiare sul momento!
